RWA Goes Mainstream: Tokenized Stock Deposits in DeFi Exceed $300 Million
Data from Token Terminal reveals a significant milestone: the total value of tokenized stock deposits within decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols has now surpassed $300 million. This figure represents a dramatic increase from approximately $11.8 million just one year ago, translating to growth of over 2,500%.
Catalyst for Growth: A Breakout Third Quarter
The most explosive growth occurred during the third quarter of 2024. Starting the quarter at around $80.1 million, deposits surged to $265 million by September 30th, marking a quarterly increase of roughly 230%.
This acceleration coincides with key industry developments, including the June launch of a major exchange's on-chain stock products and the July introduction of the Robinhood Chain. These events provided crucial infrastructure for bridging traditional financial assets onto blockchain networks.
The On-Chain Landscape: Solana Takes the Lead
The market distribution across blockchain networks shows a high degree of concentration:
- Solana leads the pack with $102.6 million in deposits, commanding a 34.2% market share.
- Robinhood Chain and Ethereum secure the second and third positions, respectively.
- BNB Chain and Base hold deposits of $42.8 million and $24.3 million.
Collectively, the top five blockchains account for approximately 96% of the total market.
Issuer Dynamics and Market Trajectory
The issuer landscape is similarly consolidated. Currently, tokenized stock products are offered by about 20 issuers across 10 different blockchains. xStocks holds the largest issuer share at over 39%, followed by Robinhood and Binance bStocks with $70.8 million and $38.4 million in deposits, respectively. Ondo Finance, focused on real-world assets (RWA), has also contributed $3.4 million.
This rapid growth underscores the rising demand for on-chain exposure to traditional equities within the DeFi ecosystem. As institutional participation deepens and regulatory pathways become clearer, tokenized stocks are poised to attract further capital seeking innovative yield opportunities.
