USD1 Stablecoin Tops $4 Billion Circulation as Trading Activity Soars
Market data reveals that USD1, a stablecoin issued by the Trump family-linked crypto initiative World Liberty Financial (WLF), has surpassed $4 billion in circulation. Trading activity for the token recently peaked at $1.7 billion within a 24-hour window, indicating substantial market engagement.
CEO Addresses Criticism: Organic Demand Versus Political Allegations
Responding to speculation that the stablecoin could be leveraged to funnel benefits to the Trump family, WLF CEO Zach Witkoff pointed to its market performance as evidence of genuine utility. “The adoption we’re seeing speaks for itself,” Witkoff stated, framing the growth as demand-driven.
He explicitly denied any operational discussions with Donald Trump, noting that his focus remains on product development and user services. “I have never, and will never, discuss company business with him,” Witkoff added.
Origins and Regulatory Standing
WLF was launched in 2024 with involvement from Donald Trump, his son, and associates. Its flagship product, the USD1 stablecoin, operates under a conditional approval for a U.S. national trust bank charter—a key regulatory milestone.
Ongoing Scrutiny: Conflicts of Interest and Financial Ties
Despite its commercial traction, WLF continues to face questions about potential conflicts of interest. Two issues remain particularly contentious:
- Equity Stake: Reports indicate that an entity linked to the United Arab Emirates acquired a 49% share in WLF, raising questions about the project’s backing.
- Family Profits: The Trump family reportedly gained hundreds of millions of dollars in 2025 through token and equity transactions related to WLF, fueling concerns over private financial enrichment.
The Road Ahead: Positioning as the “Native Cash Layer of the Internet”
Looking forward, Witkoff positions USD1 as part of a broader evolution in digital finance. He describes stablecoins as emerging into the “native cash layer of the internet,” suggesting that USD1 will pursue expanded use cases across payments and decentralized applications.
Whether USD1’s growth stems primarily from technological adoption or is intertwined with political and financial networks remains an open debate—one that could shape its trajectory in the coming years.
