Energy Portfolio Performance During Geopolitical Unrest

Financial disclosures have shed light on the performance of an energy stock portfolio associated with President Trump during a period of heightened tensions involving Iran. Between late February and the end of August, the estimated value increase for nine major oil and gas holdings within this portfolio ranged from $1.5 million to $4.4 million.

Major Holdings and Market Activity

The holdings include industry giants such as Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Occidental Petroleum. The investment account was actively traded throughout this period. Records indicate at least 23 sales of related stocks were reported by the end of June.

Notably, several transactions coincided with key market events. On the first trading day following initial military strikes in early March, the account purchased shares in eight oil and gas companies, including an Exxon Mobil position valued between $100,000 and $250,000.

Timing and Oil Price Movements

A particularly active day occurred in late March. Following news of a delayed strike on Iranian energy infrastructure, Brent crude prices fell sharply. That same day, the account reported 16 separate purchases of oil and gas stocks, totaling approximately $163,000 to $570,000 in value.

Weeks later, the account sold between $500,000 and $1 million worth of Exxon Mobil shares. Roughly two and a half hours later, a ceasefire announcement was made, after which the stock opened down more than 6% the next day.

Limitations of Disclosure and Official Stance

It is crucial to note the limitations of the data. The disclosure forms do not provide exact share counts, transaction prices, or specific lot details. Therefore, the estimated gains are a range based on available information and do not represent realized profits or precise current holdings.

There is no evidence that the account beneficiary directed trades, had advance knowledge of policy decisions, or that personal financial interests influenced policy. The White House has stated that the portfolio is managed independently by a third party.
