Faster UNI Burns Prompt Standard Chartered to Reassess Long-Term Price Target
Geoff Kendrick, Head of Digital Asset Research at Standard Chartered, has provided an updated perspective on the long-term valuation of Uniswap's governance token, UNI. He suggests that a significant acceleration in the protocol's revenue-driven token burn mechanism could render the previously projected $100 target for 2030 potentially conservative.
Surge in Protocol Fees Fuels Accelerated Token Destruction
The pivotal shift is occurring at the protocol level. Data indicates that between July 27 and August 12, Uniswap's average daily protocol revenue jumped to approximately $244,000. This represents an increase of nearly 150% compared to the average daily revenue of $99,800 recorded in the prior 17-day period.
This revenue is used to buy back and permanently remove UNI tokens from circulation. Annualized at current levels, the burn volume reaches around $89.1 million. Kendrick notes that at UNI's current market price, this burn rate equates to reducing the circulating supply by about 4% annually.
Ecosystem Integrations Drive Revenue Growth
The recent revenue surge is largely attributed to successful integrations with new blockchain ecosystems. In the past seven days alone, one such integration contributed roughly $925,000 in protocol fees, accounting for about 60% of Uniswap's total $1.55 million revenue during that period.
The success of this model highlights a new avenue for revenue diversification. Kendrick believes that if more deep integrations of this nature materialize, protocol revenue could sustain at elevated levels, potentially expanding the long-term scale of token burns.
Re-evaluating the Valuation Framework
The accelerated burn rate directly impacts UNI's valuation thesis. Token burns act as a deflationary mechanism, creating upward price pressure by reducing supply, assuming steady or growing demand.
Kendrick had previously forecast a year-end 2026 price target of $6.50 for UNI. He pointed out that even if the price reaches that level, the annualized burn ratio based on the current speed would remain around 2.2%. This indicates that the burn mechanism is becoming an increasingly significant variable in UNI's value model.
