Upbit Temporarily Suspends HBAR Transfers Ahead of Network Upgrade

Leading South Korean digital asset exchange Upbit has issued an operational notice regarding an upcoming technical upgrade on the Hedera blockchain. As a precautionary measure, deposits and withdrawals for HBAR tokens will be temporarily halted beginning at 23:00 Korea Standard Time on May 20, 2026. This suspension will remain in effect until the network upgrade is completed and its stability is verified.

Trading Unaffected, But Users Advised of Possible Delays

The exchange clarified that this action only impacts the movement of assets onto and off the platform. All spot trading activities for HBAR, including placing and canceling orders, will continue to operate normally without interruption. Upbit advised its users that deposit attempts made around the suspension period may experience significant delays or fail to process. Transaction confirmations might also be slower than usual during periods of network congestion or the upgrade window.

Restoration Timeline Pending, Security Prioritized

The resumption of HBAR deposit and withdrawal services is contingent upon the successful completion of the Hedera network upgrade. Upbit stated it is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining direct communication with the HBAR project team. Services will only be restored once the network environment is deemed secure and stable, with user asset protection being the top priority. A follow-up announcement will specify the exact time for service restoration.
