U.S. Releases Footage of Retaliatory Strikes, Escalating Tensions in Persian Gulf

On July 8, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed a new round of offensive strikes against Iranian military targets, releasing an official statement accompanied by operational footage. The U.S. military employed precision-guided munitions to hit more than 80 designated locations during the operation.

Strikes Focused on Degrading Iran's Military Capabilities

The targets were carefully selected to impair Iran's ability to project force in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, the strikes successfully destroyed or damaged:

  • Air Defense Systems: Key nodes for regional air defense.
  • Command and Control Networks: The "brain" and communication hubs for military operations.

Washington labeled the large-scale operation a "direct response" to recent incidents. The Strait of Hormuz, a global chokepoint for energy shipments, has witnessed heightened tensions. The U.S. accuses Iran of being behind attacks on three commercial tankers transiting the area:

  • The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker "Al Rekayyat"
  • The Saudi Arabian-flagged tanker "Vedian"
  • The Liberian-flagged tanker "Cyprus Prosperity"
