Shift in US Sanctions Policy Towards Venezuela

The United States government has recently modified its sanctions regime against Venezuela, opting to relax certain restrictions within the financial sector. This move has drawn significant international attention. A key point of note, however, is that the policy adjustment is not comprehensive; the US continues to explicitly prohibit transaction activities between Venezuela and Chinese companies.

China's Foreign Ministry Reiterates Core Principles

In response to these developments, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry addressed the issue during a regular press briefing. The spokesperson clearly stated China's longstanding principled stance: opposition to any illegal unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and have not received formal authorization from the United Nations Security Council. China also opposes the abuse of "long-arm jurisdiction."

Underscoring the Legal Basis of Bilateral Cooperation

The spokesperson further emphasized that the cooperative endeavors between China and Venezuela are built upon a solid legal foundation, protected by both international law and the respective domestic laws of the two nations. Consequently, all of China's legitimate rights and interests in Venezuela must be fully and effectively safeguarded. This statement reaffirms China's firm resolve to protect its overseas interests and the order of international cooperation.
