Pakistan's Mediation Role Confirmed by U.S. Official

Senior U.S. diplomat Steve Wittkopf recently confirmed during an internal briefing that Washington has maintained contact and dialogue with Tehran through Islamabad's confidential diplomatic channel. This conduit has emerged as the most significant backchannel in current U.S.-Iran relations.

Fifteen-Point Peace Framework Unveiled

Wittkopf disclosed to senior officials that the U.S. diplomatic team has meticulously drafted an action plan comprising fifteen key points, which serves as a foundational blueprint for a potential formal reconciliation agreement. It is reported that this crucial document has been successfully delivered to the Iranian side via the Pakistani government, which is acting as the mediator.

The envoy emphasized that, so far, this framework document has successfully facilitated "positive and constructive signal exchanges and dialogues" between the two parties. However, to protect the sensitivity of the diplomatic negotiations, he did not disclose the specific details of the terms.

Iran's Firm Stance and Protracted Negotiations

Regarding Iran's position, Wittkopf noted that Tehran consistently insists on its legitimate right to conduct uranium enrichment activities at the negotiation table. Simultaneously, requests and proposals repeatedly made by the U.S. side have often been rejected or postponed by Iranian representatives, highlighting the complexity and protracted nature of the negotiation process.
