US Stock Futures Pause Ahead of Key Inflation Reading

US stock futures showed little movement in Tuesday evening trading, holding in a tight range as the market braced for the release of July's Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on Wednesday morning. The report is widely seen as a crucial gauge for the Federal Reserve's policy trajectory and the persistence of inflationary pressures.

Inflation Forecasts and Market Metrics

Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal anticipate the headline CPI to have risen 0.1% month-over-month in July, with the core measure, which excludes food and energy, expected to increase 0.2%. In terms of market performance, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures edged up 16 points, or 0.03%. S&P 500 futures gained 0.07%, while Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.1%.

Notable Stock Movers and Bond Market Watch

Despite the muted broader market action, several individual stocks posted significant gains following earnings reports. Shares of data center infrastructure firm Super Micro Computer jumped more than 6% in extended trading after issuing an upbeat first-quarter report and revenue guidance. Cloud service provider CoreWeave surged 14% after reporting a second-quarter adjusted operating margin of 5%, surpassing expectations.

Beyond the CPI, investors are also looking ahead to Thursday's Producer Price Index (PPI) release for July. In the bond market, the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield hovered around 4.7%, with the 2-year yield near 4.2%, both levels reflecting expectations that interest rates may remain elevated for an extended period.

The overall market tone remains one of caution ahead of pivotal economic data. The divergence between strong individual stock performances and a stagnant broader market underscores the increasing importance of company-specific fundamentals in navigating the current macroeconomic uncertainty.
