USTR Confirms Stability of Bilateral Agreements

Appearing on CBS's 'Face the Nation' on February 22, U.S. Trade Representative Gearing made it clear that bilateral trade agreements with key partners, including the EU and South Korea, remain intact despite the proposed new global tariff plan by the Trump administration.

Gearing emphasized that the U.S. government is committed to ensuring the continued success of these agreements and pledged full support for their implementation. He also expressed the expectation that partner countries would reciprocate with equal commitment.

Tariff Policies and Trade Tools to Coexist

In addition to bilateral agreements, Gearing noted that the U.S. will continue to leverage other trade tools, including mechanisms for investigating foreign trade practices, to safeguard national interests.

To address concerns, Gearing already held talks with EU representatives over the weekend and plans further discussions with officials from other major trade partners to convey the consistency and reliability of U.S. trade policy.
