Recovery Portal Goes Live, But Technical Hurdles Delay Some Claims
Following the NFT theft incident linked to a Payment Processor vulnerability, Yuga Labs has activated its official asset recovery portal. Owners of NFTs successfully safeguarded during the white-hat rescue operation—valued at approximately $6 million—can now initiate the claim process to retrieve their assets.
Mandatory Pre-Step: Revoking Old Approvals
Before proceeding on the claim site, affected users must complete a critical security action: revoking all previous approvals granted to the compromised Payment Processor contract. This step is essential to ensure the secure transfer of assets.
Temporary Barriers for Holders of Specific ERC Standards
An important update was shared by Yuga Labs' Head of Blockchain via social media. He noted that users holding NFTs from collections that implement the ERC 721C or ERC 1155C standards might temporarily be unable to claim their assets through the portal.
This issue arises due to built-in "Transfer Validator" restrictions in these NFT standards. To work around this, users can attempt one of two configurations:
- Manually enable the "7702 delegate OTC" function within their Transfer Validator settings.
- Add the specified Ethereum and ApeChain addresses to the project's 7702 delegate allowlist.
Yuga Labs confirmed awareness of the situation and stated that the team is coordinating with the relevant NFT projects over the coming days to establish a unified solution for affected holders.
Incident Recap and Recovery Status
The incident stemmed from a security flaw in the Payment Processor smart contract, leading to widespread NFT theft. Yuga Labs promptly executed a white-hat rescue effort, intercepting and securing NFTs worth over $5.7 million to prevent further user losses.
While the rescue operation was largely successful, the company acknowledged that a portion of the stolen assets could not be recovered. The newly launched claim portal is designed to facilitate the safe and orderly return of the safeguarded assets to their rightful owners.
