Zama Unveils Confidential Vaults and Privacy Swap on Ethereum

The inherent transparency of public blockchains, where every trade, position, and balance is visible, has long been a hurdle for institutional adoption in DeFi. Privacy-focused protocol Zama is addressing this challenge head-on with two major announcements that expand its on-chain confidentiality offerings.

16 Confidential Vaults Now Live on Morpho

Zama has opened deposits for 16 confidential vaults on the Morpho platform. These vaults support private deposits of major stablecoin assets including USDC, USDT, AUSD, and TGBP, allowing users to shield the details of their capital allocation from public view.

This expansion builds on the success of Zama's first vault, launched in June in partnership with Steakhouse Financial using a USDC Prime strategy. That initial vault saw its total value locked grow from zero to over $40 million in just seven weeks. The new suite of vaults introduces several key enhancements:

  • Diversified Management: Vault management is distributed among several professional firms, including Steakhouse, Armitage by Wintermute, Flowdesk, RockawayX, and Bitwise.
  • Dual Design Approach: Twelve of the vaults are privacy-enabled versions of existing, non-confidential Morpho vaults, offering a seamless path for users seeking privacy. Four are entirely new vaults created specifically for confidential deposits.

Introducing the Zama Swap Protocol

Launching concurrently is the Zama Swap Protocol, a new system deployed on Ethereum designed to enable private asset exchange.

The protocol allows users to:

  • Swap between confidential assets like cUSDC, cUSDT, cAUSD, and cTGBP.
  • Trade shares of the confidential vaults.
  • Conduct all transactions without revealing the transaction size, direction, or user intent on-chain.

Zama highlights that the visibility of trading strategies and positions to competitors and front-runners on public ledgers creates a "structural barrier" for institutions. The Swap protocol aims to eliminate this barrier.

Ecosystem Integration and Next Steps

Initially, access to the new confidential vaults will be available through Zama's own application. To broaden accessibility, integrations with several third-party platforms are already underway. Utila, Zerion Wallet, and Yield.xyz are all slated to enable support for these privacy vaults and the Swap protocol within the coming weeks.

These developments signal a maturation of on-chain privacy infrastructure, moving from proof-of-concept toward broader, practical utility. By offering a comprehensive suite for private deposits, asset management, and trading, Zama is laying the groundwork for the next wave of institutional engagement in decentralized finance.
