Zhipu AI Enhances Data Security with No-Retention Feature for MaaS Platform
Zhipu AI's open platform recently announced a significant update via its official channel: the imminent launch of a "no-data-retention" feature. Under this mechanism, the input and output data generated during user interactions with AI models will not be statically stored on the platform's servers. Data is processed transiently solely to complete the immediate API call and is not retained afterward.
Access and Scope of Application
This feature is available to all platform users. To enable it, users must proactively submit an application through the Zhipu AI MaaS console. The platform noted that the exact activation time and the specific models or services covered are subject to final confirmation upon review.
It's important to understand the limitations. Scenarios that inherently require persistent storage on the platform side, such as Batch API and File API operations, are excluded from this no-retention guarantee due to their technical nature.
Balancing Privacy, Security, and Compliance
While promoting minimal data retention, Zhipu AI has outlined necessary exceptions. First, the platform will retain data as required to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Second, when investigating suspected violations, service abuse, or other security incidents, the platform reserves the right to retain relevant data for 30 days or longer to facilitate review and evidence collection, in accordance with its policies.
This approach reflects a pragmatic balance between user privacy concerns and the platform's responsibilities for security governance and legal compliance. It addresses growing market attention on data safety while establishing a clearer operational framework for AI service providers.
