CATL Proposes New Round of Employee Share Ownership
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the global leader in power batteries, has released a draft for its second A-share employee share ownership plan targeting 2026. The proposal involves transferring no more than 8.08 million shares from the company's repurchased stock account, representing approximately 0.175% of its total share capital.
Focus on Core Talent: Nearly 6,000 Employees and Over 12.8 Billion RMB
The plan specifically targets the company's backbone workforce. The initial grant will be awarded to 5,960 individuals, comprising middle-level managers and core key employees, reflecting an inclusive approach to sharing success beyond top executives.
Shares will be offered at a price of 158.42 RMB per share. With this pricing, the total value of the plan could reach up to 12.80 billion RMB. This substantial investment underscores CATL's commitment to retaining and motivating its most critical talent pool.
Long-Term Alignment: Five-Year Duration with Three Vesting Periods
Unlike short-term bonuses, this equity incentive is designed for long-term alignment. The plan has a duration of 60 months (five years). The vested interests will be released in three phases, at rates of 30%, 30%, and 40% respectively.
This graduated vesting schedule effectively ties employees' financial rewards to the company's medium-to-long-term performance. Participants will need to contribute to the company's sustained growth and meet relevant performance milestones to fully realize the benefits, fostering a stable, long-term incentive effect.
Amid intensifying competition and a fierce war for talent in the new energy sector, CATL's latest employee share plan is more than just a compensation tool. It represents a strategic mechanism to deeply align core personnel with the company's long-term technological leadership and business growth. This move signals to the market CATL's focus on building a robust "talent moat" through systematic wealth-sharing, preparing the groundwork for future challenges and opportunities.
