Project Odin: Exploring New Models for Sustainable Public Goods Funding
The Ethereum Foundation has launched Project Odin, a one-year structured support initiative designed to help core public goods teams establish sustainable funding pathways and reduce reliance on single funding sources.
Project Structure and Implementation Strategy
Project Odin will assign strategic advisors to teams, guiding them through three phases—research, validation, and execution—to transition from traditional grant-based models to diversified funding strategies, including service contracts, training, and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
Pilot Projects and Future Development
Smart contract language Vyper has been selected as the first pilot project, marking a key milestone in the implementation of this innovative funding approach. Looking ahead, the initiative aims to promote the FRCs model, combining grants and contracts to address engineering challenges while preserving research independence.
