Hyperliquid Testnet Updates Order Priority Rules
Industry reports indicate that Hyperliquid has introduced changes to its order priority mechanism on the testnet, requiring accounts using Immediate-or-Cancel (IOC) and Always-Live-Only (ALO) priority fees to stake a minimum of 10 HYPE tokens. This update is currently limited to the test environment, with no confirmation yet on if or when it might be implemented on the mainnet.
How the New Rule Works
The change applies specifically to accounts using the Standard abstraction, which maintains separate balances for spot and perpetual trading. It impacts transactions that interact with HyperCore via CoreWriter through the HyperEVM. Regular order placement is not subject to the 10 HYPE staking requirement.
At the time of the announcement, HYPE was trading around $78.98, making the 10-token stake worth approximately $789.80. However, the platform clarified that this is a market-value equivalent, not a new fixed fee.
Market Context and Platform Growth
Around the announcement period, HYPE saw a 1.12% decline over 24 hours and a 6.97% drop in the past week. Sources emphasize that these price movements are not directly linked to the testnet proposal.
Hyperliquid has shown significant growth recently, with open interest reaching a record $18 billion in September. In October, select perpetual contract prices from the platform became available on Bloomberg Terminal, increasing its visibility in traditional finance.
- Testnet-Only for Now: The staking rule is live only on the testnet, with mainnet deployment pending.
- Targeted Requirement: Only IOC/ALO priority fee users need to stake 10 HYPE; regular orders are unaffected.
- Efficiency Focus: The update aims to optimize mempool priority allocation for certain account types.
