SK Hynix Expands Packaging Outsourcing, Reshaping Supply Chain Dynamics
SK Hynix is making strategic moves in its memory semiconductor packaging operations by significantly expanding its outsourcing footprint. This shift involves bringing a former partner back into its supply chain after a multi-year hiatus.
WINPAC Returns to the Fold with DRAM Packaging Orders
Beyond its existing OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) partner A-PROTECH, SK Hynix has begun channeling additional packaging volume to WINPAC. This renewal of collaboration comes four years after their previous partnership concluded.
The renewed cooperation is material, involving specific product allocations. SK Hynix is entrusting WINPAC with packaging a portion of its DDR4 and next-generation DDR5 DRAM memory chips. This move effectively reintegrates WINPAC into the core packaging supply chain for SK Hynix's flagship memory products.
Production Lines Activated, Marking Capacity Milestone
In preparation for the new business, WINPAC has completed necessary preparations at its packaging facility in the P-cluster. Equipment calibration and line setups are finished, and the relevant production lines have now transitioned into mass production.
This cluster is designated for packaging high-performance memory products, including DRAM, NAND flash, and eUFS (embedded Universal Flash Storage). The influx of new orders and operational optimizations have driven a notable increase in the site's output.
- Capacity Boost: Monthly packaging capacity has risen from 44 million units to 50 million units.
- Technology Focus: The lines specialize in packaging advanced memory chips that demand higher performance and reliability.
This capacity expansion serves dual purposes: fulfilling the new orders from SK Hynix and meeting the broader market's growing demand for high-performance memory packaging. For SK Hynix, leveraging specialized OSAT partners like WINPAC allows for greater operational flexibility. It enables the company to concentrate its internal resources on core competencies such as chip design and advanced process technology, positioning it to better respond to dynamic market conditions.
