Strong AI Demand Drives Bullish Analyst Views on TSMC

Ahead of its second-quarter earnings release, TSMC, the world’s leading semiconductor foundry, is in the spotlight. A notable pre-market share price increase reflects growing market optimism about its financial outlook.

Citi: Scale Advantage Solidifies, Growth Visibility Improves

In a recent report, Citi suggested that TSMC might deliver a more positive long-term message during its mid-July earnings call. The central expectation is that the company could further raise its revenue growth guidance for 2026.

This bullish stance is primarily rooted in two factors: persistently strong demand for cutting-edge process chips and improved long-term visibility into the company's business. Citi analysts particularly highlighted TSMC’s unrivaled manufacturing scale as its core competitive moat.

“Even amid intensifying foundry competition, this scale advantage continues to support wafer pricing power, high customer stickiness, and sustainable gross margins,” the report noted. Regardless of shifts in its client portfolio, TSMC is positioned as a primary beneficiary of the secular expansion in AI semiconductor demand.

Goldman Sachs: AI & HPC as Structural Growth Engines

Echoing the positive sentiment, Goldman Sachs updated its view on TSMC before the earnings season. The firm raised its price target on TSMC’s American Depositary Receipts (ADR) from $550 to $600, reiterating a “Buy” rating.

Goldman Sachs took a longer-term perspective, arguing that artificial intelligence and high-performance computing have evolved into “structural growth engines” for TSMC for years to come. The bank observed that the drivers for 2027 growth are stronger than previously expected, especially demand from AI accelerators and server CPUs.

A critical market dynamic is the persistent and significant supply-demand gap in advanced process nodes and advanced packaging. To address this, Goldman expects TSMC to accelerate capacity builds and capital expenditure. Concurrently, ongoing productivity improvements and strategic pricing are projected to push the company’s gross margin onto a structurally higher trajectory by 2027 and beyond.

Market Reaction

The aligned optimism from two major financial institutions quickly resonated with investors, as seen in the pre-market stock movement. This reaction is not merely about anticipation for quarterly results but represents a reassessment of TSMC’s central role and long-term earnings potential in the AI era.

As the earnings date approaches, the market will closely scrutinize the detailed financial figures and management's commentary on future demand to validate these upbeat projections.
